Sun King packaging
Tanel Veenre has designed the spirited series of plates and cups Sun King, which charms with pastel and dark colours: moss green, deep eggplant, etc. On the colourful plates and cups, different animals form patterns: seahorses, dragonflies and beetles. The dishes are made of the highest quality thin bone china – fine bone china.
The author had the packaging structure in place – a package made of brown corrugated cardboard, decorated with a black paper belt with a gold print. The solution is well thought out. If you take the plate out of the package and separate the paper belt, it is possible to recycle the packaging. In addition, the filling material of the packaging (wool blanket, corrugated cardboard) and also a personalised paper belt can be recycled.
The customer deliberately wanted a paper belt on the packaging that would have a beautiful and deep texture. We looked through several options and the chosen one was the cardboard
In screen printing, the colours are more heavily coated and the print is smooth, which can overshadow the texture of the paper, so we decided to print the paper belt with digital gold, where the colours are thinner. The result was wonderful: perfect coverage, good sharpness of the font, a beautiful golden hue and the paper texture shone through the print. A great advantage of digital printing is the possibility to make test printing more easily to make sure that the result works. In the case of this project, we also made the text font a little bigger after the first rehearsals.
We made the paper belts with grooves and added adhesive strips to make packaging more convenient.
